Thanksgiving Day Travel on the Blue Ridge Parkway, Virginia

We always take the Blue Ridge Parkway up to the In-Laws on Thanksgiving Day. This is one of the places we pass. The restaurant is shut down at this point in the year, but you can still get out and see the wonderful site.

On a recent Autumn trip up the Blue Ridge Parkway, we got a glimpse into the workings of the Mabry Mill. There were Rangers telling stories and grinding corn as well as Blacksmith and weaving demonstrations. Over twenty million visitors a year head up and down the parkway and Mabry Mill is a favorite destination. This video features beautiful photographs taken by Janet.

From HappyMappy.com Perhaps the most photographed site on the Blue Ridge Parkway, Mabry Mill was a community gathering place in the early decades of the 1900s and is a gathering place for Parkway visitors today. A restored gristmill, sawmill, wood working shop, and blacksmith shop. Traditional rural skills such as basket weaving, chair caneing, spinning and weaving are demonstrated on a regular basis during the visitor season. Apple butter on weekends in October and music and dancing each Sunday afternoon during the summer and fall make Mabry Mill one of many delightful Parkway experiences. Located at Milepost 176 on the Blue Ridge Parkway.

    Thank You so much tjbigdog,
your comment is one of our absolute favorites. We love having and making memories with family and it sounds like you have quite a few great ones yourself. We’ll leave this video up as long as YouTube lets us, hopefully forever, so you can go back to Mabry Mill anytime you wish. We just came from seeing the Frescos over in W. Jefferson. Is that still in the Yadkin?

Hey Dan I’m really glad that I ran across your videos. They are excellent in every aspect. You took me right back to when I was a kid in the late 60’s traveling with my Mom & Pop. We always took the Skyline Drive & Blue Ridge Parkway when vacationing to see family in Yadkin Valley NC. Some of my fondest memories are of Mabry Mill. We have pics of our family (there were 7 kids) playing around the mill stream and pond. Thank you for posting.
This ones for CL Doc Johnson Sr. R.I.P.

HI! Loved your video. My husband and I love travelling the BRP. We have almost finished the whole parkway. Still have Skyline Drive to do and the last part in NC to finish. It is beautiful. We are in Danville so Mabry Mill is not that far from us. So we go there several times a year to visit. And we have also eaten at the gift shop next door. They do have really good food. If you are looking for dessert theres a place in Meadows of Dan that has awesome Rice Pudding!!!

Great Video. We were up there a few years ago. We never got to spend much time at any one place, but figured they must have had to been more than we saw. My wife was in a hurry all she could think of was gettingg to the Outer Banks of N.C.. We had 2 weeks to do everything in. I got 4 days in the mountains then the rest she got at the Outer Banks. See my videos at idiot49..
